Belgium shut out Italy for historic advancement to EuroVolley semifinals

Belgium achieved a historic success by qualifying for the semifinals of a men’s European Championship for the first time. Coach Vital Heynen’s squad mastered a 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-23) victory over the 2015 bronze medallists Italy in the late Katowice quarterfinal at LOTTO EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017. On Saturday in Krakow, Belgium will face Russia in an attempt to continue their fairy tale into Sunday’s final.

Germans overpower Czechs to book semifinal spot

Germany secured a spot in the LOTTO EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017 semifinals by managing a 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-23, 25-20) victory over the Czech Republic in the first of two quarterfinals, staged at the Spodek in Katowice on Thursday evening. The Germans overcame an inspired Czech performance and will be travelling to Krakow where, on Saturday, they will meet the winner of the Serbia vs. Bulgaria quarterfinal in a race for the gold medal match.

Four EuroVolley semifinalists coming up!

 The best four teams of LOTTO EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017 will emerge on Thursday evening as quarterfinal action unfolds in Katowice and Krakow. Germany and the Czech Republic will open the Spodek for business at 17:30 local time, while Russia and Slovenia measure up to each other again at the Tauron Arena. At 20:30, Belgium will face Italy in Katowice, while Serbia and Bulgaria engage in an all-Balkan clash for a spot in the semifinals in Krakow.

Belgium served their second five-setter, defeating Turkey 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 27-25, 18-16). With four points and two victories, Belgium take the lead in pool D. As both teams achieved impressive results on Friday, spectators gathered in Spodek Arena bargain on seeing great spectacle. Belgium and Turkey grew to the occasion, leaving audience satisfied with yet another tie breaker in Katowice.

Italy “video challenge” their way into quarterfinal encounter with Belgium

Italy became the fifth team with a spot in the LOTTO EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017 quarterfinals. In the first playoff fixture in Katowice, Gianlorenzo Blengini’s squad knocked out Turkey with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 31-29) shutout, finalised with a lot of video challenge drama at the end of the match. On Thursday, the Italians will face Belgium in a battle for advancement to the semis.

Wednesday, August 30 – Katowice:

17.30 Italy – Turkey (the winner will meet Belgium in the quarterfinal)

20.30 France – Czech Republic (the winner will meet Germany in the quarterfinal)

Wednesday, August 30 – Krakow:

17.30 Bulgaria – Finland (the winner will meet Serbia in the quarterfinal)

20.30 Poland – Slovenia (the winner will meet Russiain the quarterfinal)*

* if Poland advances to the quarterfinal, their match will be played at 20.30 CET

From that date 262 days will remain till the arrival of the best volleyball players of the Old Continent in the capital of Upper Silesia. Road to #EuroVolleyM – Venues & dates announced for next big Volleyball party

Warsaw, Poland, October 21, 2016. The Final Round of the 2017 CEV Volleyball European Championship – Men will take place in Poland from August 25 till September 3. The event will be hosted by four cities: Krakow, Gdansk, Katowice and Szczecin. Today their representatives received ‘official’ nominations from the hands of CEV Senior Vice President Renato Arena and Polish Volleyball Federation (PVF) President Jacek Kasprzyk.
